Some Facts First: The chemical components can render you of nun-like libido, and functionally hypothyroid or depressed, constipated, overweight, cloudy, with dry skin and hair! Oral contraceptives deplete vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, deplete vitamin B6, a cofactor for the production of serotonin and GABA, as well as zinc, selenium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
My personal thoughts: Tbh I think that the pill is one of the main reasons I’ve experienced chronic illness, depression and anxiety over the past 10 years. Taking a chemical everyday thats trying to be digested but a gut thats already deteriorating from all the chemical in the food and water we consume these days (and thats just the ‘healthy food’) not to mention the junk and alcohol etc. Ive had multiple doctors tell me its likely I have PCOS and endometriosis but I refused to go through the testing and went the natural way instead. One doctor even said to me that honestly theres not much point testing for them as theres no lasting fix… preventative health and cause focus is the way to proceed. Since coming off the pill and getting drastic with my gut health plan I have not experienced symptoms of any of my previous issues. The only time ive felt physically unwell is when ive let stress get the better of me. Being physically well finally has given me the energy to be a better problem solver in my own mind. To really get to know myself and my triggers and traumas and transcend them. To have a clear body and mind to get shit done everyday and really start to create the life I’ve always wanted. We get put on the pill for a multitude of reasons… for pain/skin/birth control etc. Did you know that your body can do all of this if it is supported! But you gotta do the non human no lazy thing and put in some work to get your body into that state where it can function in the way it was meant to. Doing so can yield long term positive and preventative effects that will save stress, money and time. For birth control, im playing with The Rhythm Method - tracking period/ovulation. Of corse it helps that ive be practising abstinence since coming off the pill and now the only person I would want to engage with intimately is on the other side of the world. But in the process of preparing yourself for this method there are other forms of contraception!! Once you are across the rhythm method you will understand the times when its safe and unsafe to have unprotected sex to avoid pregnancy. When you aren’t ovulating your amazing human body actually forms a thick mucus (it becomes thinner when youre ovulating) as a barrier to sperm! Get to know your body! Its pretty rad! So my honest opinion is the pill /and all hormone disrupting substances is its a NO GO for me! Deciding to make a drastic change in this arena (both physically and in changing my own mind and beliefs of what is possible) has changed my whole existence and I wouldn’t go back for the world!
