BABES ARE BETTER OFF THE COFFEE (sorry)

We all know the effects of coffee consumption relatively well. We get a boost, it helps us when we are tired and it tastes so yummy and smells so gooooooood!

However when it comes to our hormones, its not a good addition. Especially when we are experiencing symptoms such as bloating, acne, PMS and other symptoms such as chronic fatigue and anxiety or stress.
If we are experiencing any of these symptoms our body is stressed, our adrenals are being wrecked by some, or many of our life factors and while coffee probably isn’t the causing factor of these issues - its not going to aid the body to healing them.
The adrenal glands secrete two key hormones: epinephrine and cortisol. Epinephrine, or adrenaline, increases respiration rate, heart rate and blood pressure; while cortisol frees up stored glucose, which we need in greater amounts during times of perceived stress. However it’s a damaging response when the stress is chronic such as most of us find in our everyday lives.

Drinking coffee, in other words, re-creates stress conditions for the body.
Compounding the problem, people tend to consume more caffeine during stressful periods. They add stress to stress, boosting continuous amounts of these hormones and potentially making things even worse.

Caffeine is acidic, so if we consume too much of it (especially if it’s not organic and is contaminated with chemicals, sugars and the rest) we may potentially damage the lining of our digestive tract - which is very likely already weakened if we are experiencing ANY of the aforementioned symptoms above.

Rat studies have shown that caffeine consumption during chronic stress increased cortisol, blood pressure, and other negative hormonal events. Chronically stressed rats who consumed caffeine ended up sicker, and died sooner, than rats experiencing chronic stress without caffeine consumption.

These are just a few things ive learnt in the past year as I move away from coffee.

As many of you know in Dec last year I found that my hormones needed more attention to find balance to all the symptoms I had experienced (mentioned above) and the large fibroid myoma found in my uterus - these form due to high cortisol/stress, causing major imbalance, high estrogen and scary low progesterone. Progesterone drops dramatically when the body is under high stress and cortisol is always up.

It broke my heart that I was going to have to cut out coffee - one of my true loves - but as you also know ive been determined to shrink this sucker this year any way I can.

Aside from continuing my whole foods and omegas, I added a couple of vitamins, a progesterone cream, switched to tumeric lattes and aced the alcohol and the impact ive noticed physically shows that I’m on the right track. The only times I’ve had coffee this year I notice a pretty obvious and unpleasant difference in my body.

All is not lost though, im totally in love with organic decaf coffee and home made cacao ceremonies (traditional spiced cacao drink). Obviously seeing the effects on the outside is amazing! But knowing that im even more supported from the inside is worth more than that jittery hit any day!

Do you experience any of the symptoms I first mentioned? Pm me for a chat anytime x
